I definitely disagree with your perception but it’s got nothing to do with how we live or the decisions we make: I disagree because you’re telling people to avoid places after being close to an incident that scared you. Chicago, Houston, and New York definitely have more murders per year but because the population is so high (each over 2 mil) it doesn’t ever reach the top of these type of “per capita” lists. A lot of factors go into these stats & Detroit has one of the highest murder rates per cities with a population over 100,000*.

Just because these numbers exist, doesn’t mean that they’re better outside of the city or in another state. I’ve walked these streets black out drunk, I’ve had random people show up to my parties, I’ve had my car break down & random people at a bus stop help me push it out of the road all with zero issues. I totally get where you’re coming from, but as a MI/Detroit native, downtown is truly one of the safest places you can go in this state no matter the time. You’re going to see smaller populations with crime rates just as high, if not worse. I highly suggest looking into these same statistics for the smaller cities in the surrounding area.
